Move Out Information

Moving Out of Residence

Whether you are vacating Residence mid-term or at the end of your contract, you must follow proper check-out procedure as outlined below:

  1. Notify Residence Office of your move out date
  2. Complete and return Notice to Vacate document
  3. Pick up the Moving out of Residence and Check Out documents
  4. Clean your unit and remove all personal items. The best practice is to leave your unit in the same condition as it was when you moved in. Be sure to do a final check to make sure you have not left anything behind.
  5. Lock your bedroom and unit doors.
  6. Hand in your Check Out Form and key(s) to the Residence Office. This ensures you will not be charged for missing keys.
  7. Change your mailing address

If you have any non-perishable food items that you would like to donate, please take it to the Residence Office (do not leave it in your dorm)

Note: If you don't check out properly and turn in your keys, you will be charged $75 for improperly checking out and $20 for your unit/bedroom key, as well as any additional Residence fees and damage costs.

Moving out mid-term

  • A student who voluntarily breaks their Residence Contract without 4 weeks written notice to the Residence Office, or is terminated from the College, or is evicted from Residence will be charged rent up to the Friday of the week they leave and will forfeit all of their damage deposit.
  • A student who voluntarily breaks their Residence Contract with 4 weeks written notice to the Residence Office will forfeit $100 from their damage deposit.

Moving out at the end of your contract

You must vacate Residence and follow check out procedures 24 hours after your last exam or noon of the last day of your contract, whichever comes first. If you are flying home, you must ensure that your departure meets the move-out date for Residence as you will not be allowed to stay in Residence after the move-out date. You may apply at the Residence Office for a contract extension in extenuating circumstances.

Follow the steps listed above to ensure a smooth transition out of residence— and to avoid a $100 improper check-out fee.

Damage Deposit

The condition of both your room, and all common areas will determine your damage deposit refund as well as your acceptance into residence next year. Any common areas that are left in an unfit condition will result in the entire dorm being fined - regardless if you participated in the mess. Your marks and/or graduation status will be held back if you owe any residence fees due to deducitons or fines.

Before your damage deposit is released, Residence Services will inspect your unit for damage and cleaning concerns. Notice of any charges will be sent to the email address on file.
